William Brown

original copilot, bruce crew

Bill Brown, left, with pilot Bill Bruce.

The Bruce Crew's original copilot, Lt. William Brown, was injured in an incident over enemy territory prior to the Kassel Mission. His courage in spite of severe injury is described in this clip from the 30 September 1944 issue of the Air Force bulletin, "Target Victory," in which he is nominated as "Outstanding Man-of-the-Division" for his actions. Brown survived, but his replacement, Lt. John Willett, was killed on the Kassel Mission. Click the button below for the story.
