A Brief Bio

BORN:  28 April 1921 in McDowell County, Western NC, 8th of 16 children

MARRIED:  Sybil C Hutchinsfrom Winston Salem, NC, in 1942.  65 years of
   marriage as/of 14 Oct 2007.  One child, Stephen Paul, died 6 June 1963, at age 19,
   at the end of his second year as a student at UNC, Chapel Hill, NC.
EDUCATION:  High SchoolDiploma 1937,  Harris H.S., Spruce Pine, NC.
   BS Degree,  Mathematics & Science, 1942, Appalachian State T. C., Boone, NC
   MA Degree, Mathematics, 1950, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC                  
MILITARY SERVICE:  1942-1966, US Army Air Corps & USAF, Pilot Class 43-G.
   Retired from USAF 31 January 1966, with 24 years service, in grade Lt. Col., USAF.
   Pilot flying time : 4400 hours.  Aeronautical rating:  Command Pilot.

BOMBER AIRCRAFT FLOWN:   Pilot B-24, 1943-1945.   Pilot B-29, 1945-1947.
   Aircraft Commander (Pilot) in SACB-47 aircraft for 8 years, 1957-1965.

COMBAT SERVICE:  Pilot (Aircraft Commander) on 35 B-24 combat missions over
   Germany, 1944-1945.  Home Station: 445th Bomb Group (H), East Anglia,
   Tibenham, England.  Chain of Command : 701st Bomb Squadron, 445th Bomb Group,
2nd Combat Bomb Wing, 2nd Air Division, 8th Air Force, United States Army Air Forces.

WW2 COMBAT DECORATIONS:   Distinguished Flying Cross (Awarded 1945). 
   Purple Heart (Awarded 2005).  Air Medal w/4 OLC (Awarded 1944-45).
   European Theater (EAME) Campaign Medal w / 3 battle stars (Awarded 1944-45).

CIVILIAN EMPLOYMENT:  1966-1986, 20 years as Professor of Mathematics,
   Edison Community College, Fort Myers, FL.   2nd retirement, at age 65.

RESIDENCE:  My wife and I have lived at our present home 14 years, since 1994.
   We attend, and are members of Scott Lake Baptist Church, Lakeland, FL.

CHRISTIAN FAITH:  We are both born-again Christians, saved by the grace of Jesus
   Christ, our Lord and our Saviour.

PRESENT HEALTH : Excellent.
