On this 78th anniversary, our thoughts are very much on our brave airmen, past and present, who participated in the Kassel Mission. KMHS will continue to honor the sacrifices they made and preserve the memory of all who served.

Having recently finished watching the latest Ken Burns documentary, “The US and the Holocaust”, I would strongly recommend it to all. No matter how much you thought you knew about the Holocaust, I can assure you that there is much more you will learn. You may be shocked, as I was, to learn about some of the American attitudes of the time or just how stringent the migration laws were in the US. Sadly, many of those migration laws continued to be in place until 20 years after the war. You walk away with a strong sense of what happened in the 30’s and 40’s in Europe and the US could, frighteningly, happen again.

Another big takeaway for me, though, was the reinforcement of the just sacrifices made by our brave men of the 445th. This film strongly reinforced their cause. We all should all be forever grateful.

Thank you men of the 445th!
